Colonoscopy :
Colonoscopy is a procedure performed by the medical gastroenterologist to diagnose the diseases of large intestine and small intestine. Some of the diseases which can be diagnosed by colonoscopy are polyps, cancer, anaemia, inflammatory bowel disease. Patients above age of 45 are generally advised colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is done under general anaesthesia. Common risk factors of colonoscopy are bleeding, infection and reaction to anaesthesia. Patient need to inform the gastroenterologist if they are on certain medications like blood thinners, diabetic medications or anti tuberculosis drugs or any other medicines.
