Alopecia :
Alopecia is meant by hair loss that ranges from a small bald patch to complete baldness. Alopecia is categorized into several types such as alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, traction alopecia, alopecia universalis, androgenic alopecia, scarring alopecia and tinea capitis. The factors responsible for causing alopecia include genetic conditions, medical treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy, stress, autoimmune disorders, nutritional deficiencies such as lack of a few vitamins and minerals and hormonal changes that occur like during menopause or pregnancy. The presenting complains of alopecia include patches of hair loss, on scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, facial hair and body hair and nail pitting, growth of white hairs, itching and color change. The treatment modalities to deal with alopecia includes hair transplant surgery and immunotherapy, by using medications like minoxidil, JAK inhibitors and corticosteroids.
