General Surgeon :
A general surgeon is a certified surgeon with specialization in surgical management of medical conditions affecting various organs and soft tissue disorders of the body. Academic credentials of a general surgeon include qualifications such as MBBS (Bachelor or Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), and MS (Master of Surgery) in General Surgery. They pursue further fellowship and diploma courses in advanced technologies such as laparoscopic surgery, minimal access surgery, and robotic assisted surgeries.
They evaluate clinical symptomatology and conduct investigatory studies including comprehensive metabolic panel, radiographic imaging studies and tissue biopsies for complete diagnosis and treatment planning. A general surgeon offers emergent or planned surgical management. Some of the common surgical procedures include appendectomy, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, surgical excision of soft tissue cysts or tumors, breast lumpectomy or mastectomy. They collaborate with other specialty doctors such as plastic surgeons for complete management. Preoperative evaluation and postoperative follow-ups are scheduled by a general surgeon.
