ERCP :
ERCP is a combination of endoscopy and fluoroscopy and stands for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography. ERCP aims at visualizing the inside of the pancreas, bile ducts, liver, and gall bladder, and also checks for problems associated with these organs. ERCP is indicated to check for any blockages or stones in the bile ducts, narrowing or blockages of pancreatic ducts, fluid leakage from the bile or pancreatic ducts, tumors and infections in the bile ducts. The side effects of ERCP are inflammation of pancreas or gall bladder, a tear in the lining of upper part of small intestine, esophagus or stomach, collection of bile outside the biliary system, infection and bleeding. The patient should seek immediate medical care after ERCP, if they experience symptoms like fever with chills, redness, swelling and bleeding or drainage from the IV site, throat and chest pain that worsens, trouble while swallowing, abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea and black, bloody or tarry stools.
