Colitis is categorized into several types, based on the causative factors such as infective colitis that is caused due to parasitic, viral and bacterial infections, pseudomembranous colitis occurring due to the bacterium C and ischemic colitis, diversion colitis which is seen in people who had a colostomy bag, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) causing chronic colitis and radiation colitis. The management of colitis in adults involves various options like prescribing medications, adjusting to a low-fiber, easy-to-digest diet and surgery to treat certain types of colitis.
