A Sigmoidoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that enables to view inside the sigmoid colon (lower part of the large intestine) in order to diagnose and treat various conditions such as hemorrhoids, strictures, any inflammation, infection, polyps, tumors,ulcers, lower belly pain,blood and mucus in the stools, to diagnose rectal and colon cancer.etc. A Sigmoidoscopy is performed using a thin,long, slender tube called as sigmoidoscope attached with a light and camera to provide inside view. It is mostly an out patient procedure that last around 30 minutes. This procedure poses complications such as bleeding, infection, perforation or damage to other organs like esophagus.
