Haematologist :
A haematologist is a highly educated doctor who specialises in treating problems in the bone marrow, blood and lymphatic system. The title of haematologist is awarded to a doctor who earns an MBBS, MD in General Medicine and a DM in Haematology. Some of these doctors pursue further training to hone their skills after completing their academic journey. These doctors may pursue such training in the form of a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation.
Haematologists diagnose their patients with a combination of physical exams and blood tests. These specialists may order a number of blood tests for diagnosis such as peripheral blood smear, complete blood count, blood differential test and reticulocyte count. Haematologists can provide an accurate diagnosis by analyzing the results of these tests. Some of the conditions that haematologists treat include anemia, lymphoma, hemophilia, leukemia and myeloma.
