Haematologist :
A haematologist is a specialist doctor who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the blood and lymphatic system. A haematologist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by post-graduation in MD, general medicine, and pathology and then further specialised with DM in clinical hematology. Haematologists will be trained in managing various diseases like anemia, clotting disorders, blood cancers, lymphatic system disorders, bleeding disorders, and genetic blood disorders. When the symptoms occur due to blood disorders like persistent weakness, abnormal bleeding, recurrent infections, bruising, swollen lymph nodes, clotting disorders, abnormal results in blood tests, suspected blood disorders, unexplained weight loss, decrease or increase of blood cells beyond normal levels, one should get checked with a haematologist for the diagnosis and treatment of the underlying condition. Haematologists will be able to deal with the blood disorders by advising the blood tests and bone marrow biopsies, and also provide treatment through medications, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplants.
