Ear Pain :

The most common cause for ear pain is ear infection which is caused by the ear wax. The ear infection can be in external ear , middle ear or in the internal ear . Ear pain is mostly observed in children. Some of the other causes for ear ache are fever , presence of a foreign object , sore throat ,abscess in the ear, ear wax, problem in the temporo mandibular joint , problems with cervical spine . Ear pain usually reduces after 2- 3 days. If it is persisting more than 3 days the underlying cause needs to be ruled out. ENT specialist needs to be consulted . Diagnosis is generally made by physical examination of the ear, tympanic test and basic blood investigations. Treatment includes full course of antibiotics and surgery if required.
