Sciatica :

Sciatica is a medical condition characterized by pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the lower back and legs which is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica occurs due to various factors like herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis (vertebral slipping), spinal stenosis (narrowing), piriformis syndrome , trauma or injury,endometriosis, pregnancy, infections, tumors etc and causes pain in the lower back, buttocks, legs (thigh, calf, foot), numbness or tingling, weakness, burning or electric shock sensations, difficulty walking or standing etc. Management of sciatica is mainly by treating symptoms that includes pain management (medications, injections), physiotherapy, exercise, ergonomics and surgical interventions ie,. discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion if it is necessary.
