Brachial plexus injuries are nerve damage/injuries caused to brachial plexus (nerve connection from spinal cord to shoulder, arm and hands). It is usually seen in physical sports like football, motor vehicle accidents or traumatic injuries. Sometimes, even infants may experience brachial plexus injury at the time of birth, even cancers or infections can also cause this type of injury. In minor cases, the affected individual develops burning sensation or shock which lasts for a few seconds before resolving. It is also assoicated with weakness in affected arm/hand. This condition is called as burners or stingers. In severe cases, the brachial plexus injury may cause weakness and immobility in affected arm, followed by loss of sensation and severe pain. Some of the extended complications of this injury are increased stiffness in the affected arm joints, pain, permanent disability.
