Anal Fissure or Fissure is a cut or tear in the mucous membrane lining the anal canal caused probably due to excessive stretching. They present with bleeding and pain during the passage of stool. Some anal fissures heal on their own within a few weeks, but some fissures may be present for a long time and turn into a non-healing ulcer and may even get infected. There may be many causes for the formation of an anal fissure such as constipation, hard and large stool, chronic diarrhea, anal sex, childbirth trauma, TB, cancer, ulcerative colitis, etc.
