Various conditions affecting the blood vessels, like arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels, other than those supplying the heart and brain, are treated by a vascular surgeon. A vascular surgeon usually treats conditions such as blood clots, peripheral artery disease, atherosclerosis, ischaemia, aortic aneurysms, deep vein thrombosis and varicose veins. These doctors offer various surgical treatments which include minimally invasive and complex procedures like bypass surgery, atherectomy, surgical cleaning of blocked arteries, angioplasty, aneurysm surgery and stent placement.
