Deep vein thrombosis(DVT) also called as venous thrombosis is referred to a condition in which a blood clot(thrombus) is formed in the deep veins more often in the legs and less commonly seen in the arms. DVT can be asymptomatic in few individuals , while others can experience symptoms like swelling on the hands or legs, (mostly one side) discoloration of the skin in the affected area, redness, cramping , and skin becomes warm to touch etc.
DVT possess a life threatening concern when the clot travels to the pulmonary artery ( that supplies blood to lungs) and clogs it leading to a condition called as pulmonary embolism. People with sedentary lifestyle, severe injury, trauma to the veins, family history, obesity are at a risk to get deep vein thrombosis.

You cannot test yourself for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as it requires an examination by a doctor.
Consult the doctors for deep vein thrombosis in Kolkata to know more.
DVT specialists typically confirm a DVT through a combination of a physical examination, blood tests, and imaging studies such as ultrasound or MRI.
Hospitalization for DVT may be necessary for severe cases or if there is a risk of a pulmonary embolism.
Not all cases of DVT require hospitalization, it depends on the individual case and the extent of the clot.
Walking is typically encouraged for people with DVT, as it can help to increase blood flow in the legs and prevent blood clots from forming.
Life expectancy after a DVT is generally good, but the risk of complications such as a pulmonary embolism should be closely monitored.
