Crohn's disease :
Crohn's disease is an autoimmune condition which is a type of inflammatory bowel disease. There is no specific etiology for this disease. It can have genetic association. Thy symptoms include chronic diarrhea, cramps, bloody stools, ulcers. It might even cause complications as anal fissures, fistulas, anemia etc. In this condition the immune system attacks the healthy bacteria present in the gut due to inflammation. Smoking in specific increases risk for the Crohn's as such it is advised to be ceased. Your gastroenterologist might advice for a blood test and stool test to check for inflammation and other markers. Imaging modalities CT, MRI would help in identifying fistulas and the extent of damage to the gut. Steroids, anti-inflammatory medications, immunomodulators might be prescribed to alleviate the condition. There is no specific treatment for this disease.
