Syphilis :
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria species. Syphilis can manifest and progress from primary, secondary, latent to tertiary stages. Syphilis can also be transmitted from mother to child transmission during delivery (congenital syphilis), blood transfusions and sharing needles. It is characterised by presence of painless ulcer/chancre, inflamed lymph nodes, rash, fever, headache and fatigue. During the tertiary stage of syphilis, complications to heart, neurological system, and eyes can be anticipated. Timely intervention and diagnosis of syphilis can be essential to promote complete recovery of the patient. Assessment of drug allergies prior to starting antibiotic therapy is mandatory. Penicillin is the drug of choice for management of syphilis. It can be replaced by doxycycline or azithromycin in case of penicillin allergic patients.
