Cancer affecting the blood and bone marrow is defined as blood cancer caused due to changes in the DNA within the blood cells resulting in high number and abnormal production of blood cells. Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma are the most common types of blood cancers. The symptoms of blood cancers are varied in children and adults while the commonly seen symptoms include bruising, frequent infection, persistent fever, fatigue and bone pain. Treatment involves a combination of radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and bone marrow transplant. Blood cancers can be diagnosed through investigations such as complete blood count, blood chemistry tests, bone marrow biopsies, Ct scan and MRI.
