| Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) formally known as Polycystic ovary disease (PCOD) is a hormonal disorder affecting women. There are several strategies that can be applied to reverse PCOD. It is important to manage the symptoms of PCOD in cases when it leads to abnormal, heavy, long, unpredictable or absent periods, in cases of infertility, Hirsutism or excessive hair on the face, male-pattern baldness and hair thinning and especially weight gain. The first modality of treatment is to establish a long term sustainable and healthy lifestyle. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of protein and fibre and getting enough exercise while including moderate paced walks and strength training at least three times a week is necessary. An Endocrinologist can also order for some blood tests to prescribe birth control medicines or contraceptive pill to help regulate the menstrual cycle.
