Polycystic ovarian disease can be referred to as PCOD. PCOD can be called a hormonal disease that affects the reproductive hormones present in females. PCOD can also be known as PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). PCOD can lead to several cysts in the ovaries, which will cause imbalances in hormone levels and irregular menstrual cycles. The symptoms that are noticed in PCOD will be irregularity of periods, multiple cysts in the ovaries, high levels of androgen, acne on the skin, hair loss leading to baldness, and facial and body hair. The complications that can be seen when there is PCOD can be fertility issues, premature deliveries, abortions, gestational diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and endometrial cancer. One of the most common complications in PCOD will be obesity. PCOD can be diagnosed through an ultrasound scan of the uterus, examination of the pelvis, and blood tests. The management of PCOD can be achieved by treating with medications, progestin therapy, and symptomatic relief treatments. There are some lifestyle modifications that should be done in case of PCOD, such as having a normal weight, regular physical exercise, and consuming less carbohydrates in food.
