Although the exact cause of glaucoma is not clearly understood, the increased pressure developed inside the eye due to obstruction of outflow fluids within the eye, which gradually leads to damage to the optic nerve.
The diagnosis of glaucoma is done by glaucoma specialists initially by taking a medical history and family history and performing a thorough eye examination and eye tests such as tonometry, gonioscopy, visual field testing, and optic nerve testing.
The doctors who should be consulted for the evaluation and proper treatment of glaucoma are eye specialists or Ophthalmologists who specialize in treating diseases and medical conditions affecting the eyes and vision.
