LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Banjara Hills, established in 1987, is a comprehensive eye health facility in Hyderabad, India. It operates as a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness and offers patient care, rehabilitation services, and rural eye health programs. LVPEI is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH), marking it as the first major eye institute in India to receive this recognition.
The institute focuses on aiding economically disadvantaged groups in rural and urban settings, providing services through satellite clinics, rural affiliates, a 'Centre of Excellence' in Hyderabad, three tertiary centers, 16 secondary, and 158 primary care centers across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka. LVPEI's innovative community eye health approach, the LVPEI Eye Health Pyramid, is recognized and adopted by the Government of India and several developing nations.
LVPEI holds prestigious designations such as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness and serves as a Global Resource Center for VISION 2020: The Right to Sight initiative. Managed by two not-for-profit trusts, the Hyderabad Eye Institute (HEI) and the Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation (HERF), LVPEI aims to provide equitable eye care guided by leading professionals in the field.
During its three-decade journey, LVPEI has served over 23.8 million patients, with more than half receiving services free of cost, irrespective of service complexity.
