Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is an eye infection that causes inflammation of the conjunctiva (a part of the eye), making the infected eye appear pink. The symptoms of conjunctivitis include eye discharge, redness on the eyelid's inner surface or in the white part of the eye, foreign object sensation, itchy eyes, dry eyes or watery eyes, burning sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, eye pain or discomfort, and light sensitivity. Conjunctivitis occurs due to infectious causes like streptococcus, staphylococcus, and haemophilus influenza, and sexually transmitted infections caused by syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, and also viruses like measles, mumps, eye herpes, causing organisms, molluscum contagiosum, enteroviruses, and COVID- 19 virus. Irritants such as contact lenses, allergens, shampoos, and eye injuries are other factors contributing to conjunctivitis. The management of conjunctivitis includes warm compresses, antibiotic eye drops, artificial tears, and avoiding factors such as contact lenses and allergens.
