A pulmonologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders related to lungs and other respiratory soft tissues. Some of the common conditions treated by pulmonologists are asthma, bronchitis, COPD, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, obstructive sleep apnea and malignant tumors of lungs. A pulmonologist has commendable academic qualifications such as MBBS (Bachelor or Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), and MD (Doctor of Chest Medicine) and also DM in Pulmonology.
Some of the diagnostic investigations offered by pulmonologists are pulmonary function tests, chest x-rays, bronchoscopy and sleep studies.
