PUO :
PUO stands for pyrexia of unknown origin and refers to a fever that lasts for a long time without a known reason. Depending on various factors, such as classical PUO disease, PUO is classified into several types, such as immune deficient, neutropenic PUO disease or nosocomial PUO disease, and HIV-associated PUO disease. The factors responsible for causing PUO are classified into various types such as infective, non-infectious inflammatory diseases, neoplastic and miscellaneous reasons. The significant signs of PUO are fever, night sweats, weight loss accompanied by pain in chest, joints or abdomen. The risk factors of PUO are high in those with underlying infections such as HIV & inflammatory disease, family history of prior malignancies, exposure to radiation or occupational exposure, drug-induced, low socioeconomic levels, alcohol consumption, unvaccinated individuals, and those who travel to an endemic place.
