Sepsis
Sepsis is a life threatening organ dysfunction due to a Dysregulates host response to an infection. In sepsis the body's response to infection ends up causing damage to the organs eventually leading to failure of organs and death. It's important to know that all patients with infections have sepsis, but any infection has the potential to cause the sepsis. In general, organ dysfunction from sepsis results increased metabolic demands combines with insufficient circulation, this means increase demand and reduction in supply. Causes and risk factors are Bacterial infections and most common is Staph aureus, Pseudomonas, E.coli infections and also it can be due to Viral, fungal, parasites as well. Certain factors increase the risk of sepsis are elderly >65 years, Immunocompromised, Hemodialysis, Pregnancy, Indwelling catheter, Recent Surgery. Signs and symptoms are Fever, Tachycardia, Tachypnea, Reduce urine out put, Altered mental status. Treatment includes Empirical antibiotics, vasopressor, Inotropes, IV Fluids and other supportive measures along with ICU care .
