pulmonologist :
A qualified medical doctor who has completed his master's in general medicine or Chest Medicine and super specialization in pulmonology is known to be a pulmonologist. Generally, pulmonologist treats all the diseases related to respiratory system which includes upper respiratory and lower respiratory tract infections. Some of the diseases which a pulmonologist treats are bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tracheal stenosis, pneumonitis, tuberculosis etc. Pulmonologist also perform certain procedures like bronchoscopy, lung biopsy, placement of ICD drains, tapping of pleural effusion, navigational bronchoscopy, foreign body removal, bronchial stenting, pleuroscopy etc. Some pulmonologists specialise in sleep study to treat the patients suffering with insomnia. Treatment depends upon the underlying disease which generally includes bronchodilators, nebulisations and low dose of steroids.
