Vitiligo :
Vitiligo is a skin condition that makes the skin to appear white or lighter than the natural skin tone, as it results in loss of color or pigmentation of the skin. Vitiligo is categorized into various types such as generalized, segmental, trichome, mucosal, focal, and rarely universal type. The significant signs of vitiligo include patches of hair on the body that turn silver, gray or white and patches of skin or mucous membranes that lose color and appear lighter than the normal skin tone or white in color. These presenting complains of vitiligo appear on feet, hands, arms, face, mucous membranes and genitals. The factors responsible for causing vitiligo are stress, autoimmune conditions, genetic mutations, environmental triggers like exposure to UV radiation and toxic chemicals. The management of vitiligo involves taking medications like corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors, light therapy, depigmentation therapy, counseling and surgical procedures like blister grafting and skin grafts.
