Undescended testis :
When a male fetus is developing inside the womb, the testicles develop inside the abdomen of the fetus. The testicles slowly leave the abdomen and settle in the scrotum underneath the penis before birth or some months after birth. However, in some children, the testicles do not descend to the scrotum as expected. In these cases, it is said that the child has undescended testicles.
The diagnosis of this condition happens during the child's first check-up after birth. It does not cause any symptoms other than the lack of testis. But if the condition is left untreated, then it can cause hormonal problems and reproductive problems later in life. The treatment of an undescended testis involves surgery to move the testis to its expected position. The surgery is usually recommended when the child is between 12 and 24 months old.
