Head Injury :
Head injury is a severe and life-threatening condition caused due to traumatic events. It can be caused during a physical assault or violence, motor vehicle accidents, sports, unknown falls, and perforation of bullets or other sharp objects. Head injury can significantly affect the associated tissues of the scalp, cranium vault and brain. Head injury can be manifested as concussion, fracture, hematoma, or brain injury. Some of the common symptoms are syncope, memory loss, headaches, dizziness, vision and hearing changes, coordination and balance difficulties. An emergent assessment of clinical symptoms and neurological examination are mandatory to rule out critical conditions. A neurologist or neurosurgeon further conducts radiographic imaging such as CT or MRI of head and brain to evaluate the extent of damage. For mild head injury cases, adequate rest and surveillance is advised to monitor for any progression. For severely affected cases, surgical intervention is advised alongside rehabilitative services.
