Gout :
Gout is a type of arthritis characterized by sudden and severe pain attacks that occur in episodes and mainly affect the joints of a big toe. It is also seen in knees, elbows, wrists, ankles, hands, and feet. It is mainly caused by the excess build-up of uric acid in the blood. Symptoms include pain, discoloration, stiffness, swelling, tenderness to light touch, warmth, and feeling like a joint on fire. People with health conditions like overweight, heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney diseases, and cancer of blood cells are at increased risk. Factors that influence gout are genetics, drinking alcohol regularly, eating a lot of animal protein, taking water pills, and immunosuppressants. Diagnosis is made by X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, CT Scan, blood tests, and joint aspiration. Medications like allopurinol, febuxostat, pegloticase, and probenecid can lower uric acid levels.
