Diaper Rash :
A diaper rash is a patch of red and irritated skin that develops on an infant's thighs, genitals or buttocks. Such a rash is usually tender to the touch. In severe cases, the rash turns into an open patch of skin called a sore. Diaper rashes develop when the child has remained in a wet diaper for too long. In some cases, these rashes can develop due to an overgrowth of germs such as bacteria or fungi. Furthermore, some children are allergic to certain types of diapers, which can cause rashes to appear on the skin.
A paediatrician can diagnose a diaper rash with a visual exam. Most instances are mild and treatment is not required. The doctor will ask the parents to keep the affected area as clean and dry as they can. Moreover, the doctor will ask to avoid cleaning the child with alcohol wipes or fragrant wipes. The doctor may also ask to apply a thick layer of diaper rash cream to keep the baby comfortable and promote healing.
