This is typically a childhood vision problem, generally affecting one of the eyes. Amblyopia or "lazy eye" as it is commonly called is said to occur when vision from one of the eyes does not develop properly. Ambylopia can be the result of strabismus, refractive errors such as near sightedness and far sightedness, or droopy eyelids.
It is essential to detect ambylopia at the earliest so that the child's defective vision can be restored as soon as possible. The vision in the weaker eye must be made stronger either by using glasses or through surgery.
