Sinus Surgery :
Sinus surgery is performed by an ENT surgeon, usually to treat the blocked sinus passages by removing swollen tissues or unusual growths from the sinus cavities. Sinus surgery is usually indicated to manage the conditions affecting the sinuses like nasal polyps and chronic sinusitis. Sinus surgery is classified into several types such as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), caldwell luc surgery and balloon sinuplasty. The complications of sinus surgery include unusually heavy bleeding, tearing eyes, empty nose syndrome, where the nose feels stuffy or clogged, loss of vision in one eye or double vision, face numbness and CSF fluid leakage leading to meningitis after the surgery. The post operative care after sinus surgery includes keeping a gauze under the nose to catch the drainage, drinking plenty of fluids and sleeping with the head elevated. One should consult a doctor immediately after surgery if they experience fever, which is a potential sign of infection.
