Breast reduction also known as reduction mammoplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce the size and weight of breasts thus decreasing the physical discomfort and pain. It is done in case of macromastia (excessively large breasts), gigantomastia, breast hypertrophy, back, neck and shoulder pain , poor blood circulation, breathing difficulties, chaffing, chronic rash or skin irritation under the breasts, shoulder grooves from bra straps, physical limitations like exercise, mobility etc.
