Maternal fetal medicine(MFM), is a branch of medicine that is committed to managing health concerns of the mother and fetus before, during, and after pregnancy. A maternal fetal specialist is also called as Perinatologist. They possess extensive knowledge in obstetric, medical, genetic, and surgical complications of pregnancy along with the effects of complications on the mother, fetus, and newborn . Preconception counselling, Routine prenatal care, Testing for high risk pregnancy, Managing pre -existing or any new health condition in women, performing investigations or diagnostic tests to check for genetic abnormalities, assisting labour and delivery, and managing postpartum complication are some of the primary responsibilities of a Perinatologist.
