Spondylosis :
Spondylosis can be either cervical or lumbar, it is type of osteoarthritis or arthritis of neck or back respectively. It is caused due to repetitive usage of cartilages and bones between cervical and lumbar vertebrae. It typically presents as mild to severe neck or back pain, difficulty performing location specific movements, unusual sounds like clicking or popping of the vertebral discs, dizziness and headaches. A spine surgeon or neurosurgeon is responsible for clear evaluation of the spondylosis. They perform varied clinical exams and imaging studies like MRI, CT or x-ray of the neck and back to rule to the extent of damage. First line of management is with pain relievers, heat and cold therapy, massage therapy and assistance of brace. For moderate cases, epidural steroidal injection in the neck or back can be provided. If the condition progressively worsens, spinal fusion surgery can be opted.
