Malaria :
Its a mosquito borne infectious disease transmitted through the bite of female anopheles mosquito. Mostly prevalent in hot humid tropical climates.The symptoms appear 10 days to one month post the initial exposure . A single celled organism known as plasmodium is the cause of this disease. About five species of plasmodium are known to infect humans of which p.falciparum, p.vivax, p.knowlesi are known to cause severe symptoms. P.ovale and p.malariae is more associated with milder for, of the disease.
The parasite enters the patients blood through the mosquito's saliva through the bite where it travels to the liver and multiplies. In some cases they stay latent in liver without any symptoms and can get activated after a long duration. Usual symptoms include fever, chills, sweating, fatigue, chest pain, diarrhea. A blood test would help in diagnosis. Your general practitioner might prescribe artemisinin combination therapy, chloroquine , doxycycline, mefloquine, primaquine to treat the malaria.
