Vaginal Prolapse :
Vaginal prolapse is also known as vaginal vault prolapse. Vaginal prolapse is a condition when the muscles around the pelvis become weak, thus resulting in the formation of bulge in the vagina. The vaginal vault called the top part of the vagina, drops down into the vaginal canal called vaginal prolapse. The symptoms that are experienced in vaginal prolapse can be a feeling of a bulge or lump in the vagina, fullness in the vagina, lower back pain, urinary incontinence, urinary bladder infections which are frequent, feel like something is slipping out of the vagina, bowel problems, problems in sexual intercourse. The vaginal prolapse causes that commonly seen are childbirth during menopause, genetic factors, hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), vigorous physical activity, vaginal childbirth, and also older age. Diagnosis of vaginal prolapse is done with a pelvis examination, MRI scan or ultrasound scan of the pelvis. The treatment options include surgical treatment and non surgical treatment. Non surgical treatment includes vaginal pessary, which is inserted in the vagina, and kegel exercises. The surgical treatments include sacrocolpopexy, vaginal vault suspension, and colpocleisis.
