Diabetic Foot :
Diabetic foot is a medical condition observed in chronic diabetes patients due to complications like diabetic neuropathy/ nerve damage and peripheral vascular disease / improper blood circulation. The nerve damage related to the foot muscles is responsible for causing numbness, and no sensation of cold, heat or pain. This leads to neglecting any absolute signs of infections like cuts, open wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, or gangrene conditions. The reduced blood supply to the affected areas can cause delayed and slow response to wound healing. If neglected and untreated, it can lead to amputation of the affected foot. To avoid such complications, an individual with prolonged uncontrollable diabetes must pay close attention to any fluctuations in skin color, odor, pus discharge, swelling, immobility of the foot to evaluate the underlying cause and plan further treatment.
