Conjunctivitis :
Conjunctivitis is the medical term used to describe the inflammation of the conjunctiva of eyes, either unilateral or bilateral. It is commonly known as Pink eye. It is highly contagious disease condition. Conjunctivitis can be easily identified with clinical symptoms like redness/pinkish discoloration of conjunctiva, itchy or burning eyes, watery or dry eyes, blurred vision, sensitivity to glare and light, and eye discharges. There are several causes including infectious like bacteria or viral and non-infectious like allergens or eye injury. Pink eye has to be evaluated and treated with care by general physicians, pediatricians, or ophthalmologist to rule out any further complications. The condition improves with prescribed medications like antibiotic, antiviral and antifungals besides over-the-counter eye lubricants. General hygiene protocols need to be practiced to avoid the spread of the disease.
