Disorder that causes impaired language and speech is called aphasia. It occurs as a result of damage to particular areas of the brain that are responsible for language understaning, comprehension, and expression. This makes a person affected with aphasia, unable to communicate freely and effectively with others. Sometimes, a person who has suffered a stroke has aphasia.
There are two types of aphasia that is commonly seen. Broca aphasia takes place due to damage of the front part of the language-dominant side of the brain. On the other hand, Wernicke aphasia occurs because of damage of the side portion of the language-dominant part of the brain.
