Question & Answers in
Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea
Q.

Hello Sir, this is Shashank. I am 35 years old. How do I find out if I have sleep apnea? Is it possible to treat sleep apnea without consulting a doctor? Please explain briefly

A.

Sleep apnea means repeated choking in sleep. The more you choke per hour indicates more severity. Signs of obstructive sleep apnea are loud snoring, choking episodes in sleep, and daytime sleepiness. This condition is seen mostly in obese, hypothyroid with weight gain patients and patients with nose related problems. We will evaluate with a test called sleep study (polysomnography). We can plan sleep study at hospitals or at home based on clinical suspicion of sleep apnea. Everything should be done under proper doctor guidance for proper treatment.
