Sleep Specialist :
A sleep specialist is a specialist who deals with diagnosing and managing disorders of sleep. A sleep specialist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by post-graduation in pulmonary medicine, or in neurology, or in ENT, or psychiatry, and further they will pursue special training in sleep medicine. The conditions which will be treated by a sleep specialist are sleep apnea, also known as pauses in breathing while sleeping, loud snoring disturbing one's own sleep, difficulty in sleeping, restless leg syndrome, which can be narcolepsy, characterized by excessive daytime sleeping, and constant leg movement during sleep, causing disturbance. The symptoms that should be addressed by a sleep specialist include not falling asleep, excessive daytime sleeping, snoring loudly, sleep walking, abnormal breathing patterns, irritability, headaches in the mornings, and mood changes. A sleep specialist will do a sleep study known as polysomnography in order to diagnose the sleep disorders, and also provide support and guidance for having good sleep.
