Question & Answers in
Lap Hysterectomy

Lap Hysterectomy
Q.

Hi Doctor, My name is Soujanya, from Gachibowli. Is it painful having a hysterectomy (to have my uterus removed)? What precautions should be provided after a uterus removal procedure?

A.

Hi Soujanya, first we need to know what is the reason for the hysterectomy?..what is your age?...and whether it is done through laparoscopy or an open procedure... coming to the pain, a hysterectomy is a major surgery. Open surgery is definitely more painful and takes more time for recovery than the laparoscopic approach..but the procedure of performing a hysterectomy is the same in both. The only thing is, in open surgery, you will have a big scar where as in laparoscopy, you will have small 0.5-1 cm scars at 3-4 places..and coming to precautions, there are no specific precautions to be taken here...just like any other major surgery, you need to have to take rest for min 6 weeks, and this also depends on your condition, avoid heavy weight lifting and intercourse for 6 weeks...and depending on your condition your gynaecologist will advise any if extra precautions to be taken or not...thank you.
