Uterine Fibroids :
Uterine fibroids can be described as the non cancerous growths which can be seen in the connective tissue of the uterus. Uterine fibroids can also be called as leiomyomas. There are many types of fibroids based on the location, it is developed in the uterus such as intramural in the muscular wall, submucosal in the inner lining, subserosal which is outside of the uterus, pedunculated fibroids. The symptoms that can be noticed when there are uterine fibroids can be excess bleeding during periods, lower back pain, pelvic pain during periods, pain during sexual intercourse, frequent urination, infertility issues. Usually fibroids does not hinder the conception of pregnancy but few types of fibroids such as submucosal can lead to abortion and infertility. Fibroids can be diagnosed through ultrasound examination, blood tests which includes complete blood count, other blood tests to diagnose any bleeding disorders. The other diagnostic tests such as MRI scan, hysteroscopy, hysterosonography, CT scan, laparoscopy, sonohysterography, hysterosalpinography. The management of uterine fibroids can be done through medications, oral therapies, iron supplements, birth control pills, fibroid surgeries such as myomectomy, hysteroscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, laparotomy.
