An oncologist is a specialized medical doctor who deals with the diagnosis and management of cancerous conditions. An oncologist is qualified with graduation in MBBS, followed by a master's MD or MS in general medicine, and then a DM in medical oncology. Oncologists specialize in the diagnosis of cancers and provide cancer treatment with methods such as chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and other procedures. When there are symptoms such as persistent fatigue, persistent pain, unexplained weight loss, lumps or masses, unusual bleeding, persistent cough, swallowing difficulties, voice changes, changes in bowel habits, and skin changes, one should consult an oncologist for the diagnosis of cancer and for further treatment which prevents the spread of cancer to other parts. There are various types of oncologists, such as medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and pediatric oncologists. Oncologists often provide support to patients in the cancer treatment journey.
