Trigeminal neuralgia :
Trigeminal neuralgia can be described as a disease affecting the nerves present in the face, which leads to facial pain. The main cause of the trigeminal neuralgia will be compression of the trigeminal nerve due to a blood vessel present near the brain stem. There are three major types of trigeminal neuralgia such as primary trigeminal neuralgia, secondary trigeminal neuralgia, and idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. The symptoms that can be seen in the case of trigeminal neuralgia include throbbing pain, numbness, burning sensation, and dull pain. There are two forms of pain such as trigeminal neuralgia with continuous pain, and paroxysmal trigeminal neuralgia. The trigeminal neuralgia can be diagnosed with physical examination, neurological examination, MRI scan of the brain. The facial pain should be noticed either it is causing due to trigeminal neuralgia or other conditions such as migraines, cluster headaches, or TMJ dysfunction. The management of trigeminal neuralgia can be done with medications. Surgical treatments can be done, such as radiosurgery, microvascular decompression, peripheral neurectomy, and rhizotomy.
