In general, blood pressure or B.P is measured in millimeters of mercury or (mm of Hg). Normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm of Hg. Any value of blood pressure above the normal value, that is obtained on a consistent basis is defined as hypertension. Some of the symptoms that one may experience with high blood pressure include, headaches, shortness of breath, and nose bleeds. Although, leading a healthy lifestyle can help keep high blood pressure under control, a few patients need treatment with medications in order to get their high blood pressure under control. It is imperative to understand that untreated high blood pressure leads to the development of complications such as heart attack, stroke, and other serious health conditions. Talk to a doctor if your blood pressure measurements are consistently high.
