Facial Pain :
Facial pain or oro-facial pain is a symptom of various disease conditions. There are several types of facial pain, such as jaw pain, tooth pain, vascular pain, atypical facial pain, and nerve pain. There are many causes of facial pain, such as herpes simplex or herpes zoster infection, headaches, sinus infections, myofacial pain syndrome, tooth abscesses, sialadenitis, TMJ disorders, and trigeminal neuralgia. Facial pain can be treated based on the underlying causes through nonsurgical procedures and surgical procedures. The nonsurgical procedures used for the treatment of facial pain are complementary therapy, medications such as anti seizure medications, antidepressants, nerve blocks to relieve facial pain, and Botox injections. The surgical procedures used to treat facial pain are microvascular decompression, peripheral nerve stimulation, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Mild facial pain can be reduced by using ice pack application, massage, using a heat pack, and pain relievers.
