Eczema :
Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to become bumpy, dry, and itchy and is also a type of dermatitis. Eczema is classified into various types, namely, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema, nummular eczema, neurodermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis. The risk factors of eczema include similar family history, dermatitis, hay fever, allergies and asthma. The presenting complaints of eczema include dry skin, skin rash, itchy skin, bumps on the skin, flaky, scaly or crusty skin, thick, leathery patches of skin and swelling. Eczema presents on hands, face, especially cheeks, ankles, knees, neck, elbows, feet, in and around the ears and lips. The causes of eczema include genetic factors, immune system irritants, harsh soaps, fabrics like wool and some skin care products, exposure to smoke, air pollutants and emotional triggers. The treatment plan for eczema includes taking medications to suppress the symptoms, using moisturizer regularly, avoiding triggers and participating in light therapy.
